Covenant —
“
He said to catch the wolf the boy should find that place where the acts of God and those of man are of one piece. Where they cannot be distinguished... The old man said that it was not a question of finding such a place but rather of knowing it when it presented itself. He said that it was at such places that God sits and conspires in the destruction of that which he has been at such pains to create.
”(Cormac McCarthy - The Crossing)
Function is the true expression of things deeply hidden inside of a created by a creator, and our outward expression becomes a mirror image for things we hold inside. So I create functional tools for the chase, for the lonley and communal places where we find ourselves, whether sub-aquatic or terrestrial. To me they should be beautiful and purposeful.
Covenant is a promise to hold true to these physical expressions and all they represent: reliability, durability, function, and elegance.
ABSTRACTION AND EMPIRICAL ILLUSTRATION
We live our lives made up of a great quantity of isolated instants. So as to be lost at the heart of a multitude of things. (From the Double Dream of Spring, 1970.)
‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’
Exodus 19:4-6

Maintaining your knife is essential to its performance and longevity. Each knife I make comes with a promise of lifetime sharpening and servicing from Covenant Knives. There are some simple things you can do to make sure that they maintain peak performance.
STAINLESS STEEL
While many assume that these are impossible of rusting or oxidizing, that is not true.
1. Always rinse in freshwater after use when possible.
2. Never allow wooden or other natural material handles to soak in water for any amount of time.
3. Keep your blade sharp.
Aquatic Applications
Knives used in the ocean require extra steps to maintain corrosion.
1. Follow the steps above and do the following:
a. Dry the blade and sheath seperately - microscopic metals from the ocean environment often times settle in the sheath and when the action of evaporation occurs, they can corrode on the surface of the metal much easier when in a sheath. This does not mean the knife metal is corroding or rusting, rather oxidation of other trace materials on the suface is causing rust. Dry the two seperately to prevent this.
b. Spray WD-40 in the sheath between uses. This will create environment inside the sheath that is difficult for oxidation to occur.
c. Apply a thin layer of Ax Wax to the blade between uses. It will create an oxide free layer over the blade and ensure oxidation will not occur.
HIGH CARBON STEEL
1. Always rinse in freshwater after use.
2. Never allow wooden or other natural material handles to soak in water for any amount of time.
3. Keep your blade sharp.
4. Wipe the blade clean and dry after each use.
5. Never put in the dish washer.
